Big Thoughts for little people / Kenneth N. Taylor (several values)
This is a teaching book for parents of small children about Christian living. It has rhyming text with each page talking about a theme that starts with a different letter of the alphabet. Questions and Bible verses are on each page. There are things to look for in the illustrations.
This little light of mine / illustrated by E.B. Lewis (kindness)
This is based on an African-American spiritual dating back to the days of slavery. The illustrations show how one character lets his light shine in being a loving person. There’s lots of “story” in the pictures. (up through 1st)
A Child’s Book of Values / Leslie Wright
Twelve core Christian values are presented in this DK book. Each has between two and four pages including what the value means, a present day example, a scripture tie-in, questions to think about and a prayer. Good to explore together one value at a time.

To help celebrate the 50th birthday of the UN, the UN and Jim Henson Productions asked children all over the world what their one wish would be to make the world a better place. This book is a good one for discussion….it covers peace, patience, goodness, kindness, etc. (intermediate and up)
The Book of Virtues for Young People / William J. Bennett
This is a treasury of great moral stories teaching compassion, courage, honesty, friendship, and faith. A good book parents can “still read to” older children. Pick and choose the stories and poems you want to share. (intermediate and up)
A book of Sunshine / Bill Zimmerman (joy)
This is an adult book but could be used by older children. Simple words and drawings to get you thinking about some cheery thoughts rather than gloomy ones….ideas for bringing joy into your life and others. (older intermediate and up)
