Menu of Ministry Descriptions

 

Descriptions of Menu of Ministries…
 
Administrative Ministries
Office volunteer – will assist church secretaries on an as-needed basis for large projects like special mailings, etc.
 
Phone inactives– assists office staff in placing calls to members who miss three or more weeks
 
Help with Bulletins/Newsletters - assist church secretaries with compiling the newsletter and/or bulletins…..may include sorting, stamping, labeling, stapling, etc.
 
Count Money – will help Church Treasurer count the Sunday offertory….done on Monday mornings
 
Check Pencils & Cards in Sanctuary – will be responsible for seeing that the pencils in the pew are sharpened before every Sunday. Volunteer will be responsible for one month
 
Keep Memorial Book Updated – as donations are made in memory of lost loved ones, volunteer will record and update our Memorial Book with the information
 
Scrapbook Church History – volunteer will look at what information we currently have saved and work on scrap booking more recent church history.
 
Church Liaison for Weddings – volunteers will assist those people who are planning weddings in our church by answering their questions, being available to them at the dress rehearsal and day of the wedding
 
Wedding Ministry Mailer – volunteer will mail a monthly newsletter (already made) to newly married couples …just copy the newsletter, put it in an envelope and send it to the couple.
 
Picture Clipper – will clip pictures of church family from local papers and update the bulletin board near the welcome table
 
Will check lights, doors & candles after 2nd ser. – following the second service, volunteers will check Sunday School rooms and hallways to be sure that lights are turned off
 
Church Maintenance Worker:
 
Mow Grass – will mow grass at the Church and the parsonage as needed
 
Carpentry - will participate in any small woodworking projects for the church or parsonage as needed and directed by the trustees
 
Electrical - willing to help in any wiring/electrical projects at the church or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Masonry – willing to help in any laying of block, stone, or brick at the parsonage or church as directed by the trustees
 
Painting – willing to work on small painting projects at the church or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Flower Beds – will help plant flowers, pull weeds and maintain landscaping areas around the church and parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Prune Trees – will thin trees and remove dead branches from trees on the grounds of the church property or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Snow Removal - will aid in shoveling snow on Sunday mornings as needed
 
Deep Cleaning/Wash Windows– willing to scrub, dust, wash windows, etc. at the discretion of the trustees on an as needed basis at the church or parsonage
 
Plumbing - will help on small plumbing projects at the church or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Wood Refinishing – will help stain or refinish small wood working projects at the church or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Assist with Construction Clean-Up – would be willing to help dust, sweep, or clean up following construction projects at the church or parsonage as directed by the trustees
 
Dust Sanctuary – would be willing to help dust pews and woodwork in the sanctuary as directed by the custodians
 
Vacuum Sanctuary – would be willing to vacuum sanctuary as directed by the custodians
 
Computer Support – will lend tech support to church staff concerning church computers
 
Sign Ministry Support – would be willing to help change the sign in the front yard if shown what to put on it and how to do it….sign is changed about every 2-3 weeks but any help would be appreciated
 
Church liaison for publicity w/ local newspapers – will help write and/or edit articles from the church that are submitted to The Citizen or Mt.Vernon News
 
Website Support- would be willing to learn how to put things on the website (actually this is very easy!!) and brainstorm ideas to keep the site current and relevant
 
Photographer – will take pictures at Church events for use on bulletin boards, website, Church scrapbook, etc
 
 
 
 
 
Adult Education Ministries
 
Teach Sunday School - will be willing to lead an adult Sunday School class
 
Substitute Teach Sunday School – will be willing to fill in for an adult SS teacher on an as needed basis
 
Lead a short term Bible Study – will be willing to be a small group Bible Study leader, often on Sunday evenings but not restricted to that time
 
Teach Alpha Bible Study – will be willing to teach a Bible Study for those new in the faith---covering basic Bible teachings; times to be determined by teacher & class
 
Take an Alpha Bible Study Class – will take a beginning class on Bible basics
 
Teach Disciple I or II Bible Study – will lead an in-depth study of the Bible-materials provided
 
Take Disciple I or II Bible Study – will take a more in-depth class covering the entire Old and/or New Testament
 
Chairperson for Library – will manage the Church library, oversee purchase, promotion, check-out, and shelving of books and materials
 
Library Worker – will help Church Librarian on any large projects on as needed basis
 
Review Books for Tower Chimes – will write up a short review of a book from the church library or one of interest to worshippers – monthly or quarterly
 
United Methodist Men - will meet with other men of the church to have fellowship and do service activities such as the fall woodcutting event
 
United Methodist Women – this group meets once a month on Thursday evenings and supports numerous missions in the United Methodist Church at all levels
 
Promote Emmaus – will encourage folks to take an “Emmaus Walk” by publicizing dates of walks, posting material about them and being available to answer questions about what it means to go on an “Emmaus Walk.”
 
Sponsor an Adult on Emmaus Walk – will lend direct support and encouragement to an adult who will be going on an Emmaus Walk.
 
Take an Emmaus Walk – An Emmaus Walk is a week-end spiritual retreat
 
Join a couples group – would like to join a group for couples who do Bible Study and have fellowship
 
Join a readers group – would like to join a group of people who meet monthly to discuss a book that they have read
 
Join a quilters group – would join a group of ladies who quilt and learn to quilt and often do projects for different persons in the church
 
Join a singles group – would be willing to work with one or two other older, single adults to try and begin a singles group in the church—this group would be given support by the leadership team in getting started
 
Join a stay-at-home Moms group – would like to join a group of moms who are at home during the day for study, support, and fellowship
 
E-mail or Write to College Students – will write to or email a specific young adult one time per month for the school year
 
E-mail or Write to service men and women – will write to or email a serviceman or servicewoman one time per month throughout the year
 
 
Children’s Ministries
 
Sunday School Teacher – will plan and teach lessons for specific age group. Teaching rotations may be offered every other month or for a 3 or 9 month period
 
Substitute  Sunday School Teacher  - will fill in for a regular Sunday School teacher on an as needed basis
 
Junior Church Coordinator – will select junior church curriculum and schedule volunteers for 3 Sundays per month. Will provide communication with the church office and worship planning team in regards to special events and volunteer scheduling
 
Junior Church Teacher  - will plan and teach lessons during the 11:00 service
 
Junior Church Substitute Teacher  - will fill in for a regular junior church teacher on an as needed basis
 
Children’s Music Director – will lead children in praise and worship one Sunday per month during 11:00 Junior Church. Will coordinate special performances with worship team and church office
 
Children’s Musical Director – will choose children’s musical material, assign parts to children, and coordinate volunteers for teaching, costumes, sound, and kitchen
 
Children’s Musical Volunteer – will assist the musical director with various needs (teaching, costumes, food, sound, publicity, props, etc…)
 
Vacation Bible School-Director – will choose theme and curriculum and coordinate all volunteer responsibilities. Will also make arrangements for closing program and provide communication with partnering church(es).
 
Vacation Bible School Teacher  - will teach lessons to VBS children
 
Vacation Bible School Music Director –will teach music to VBS children and help coordinate closing program
 
Vacation Bible School Craft Director – will choose craft ideas and gather needed supplies. Will lead children in crafts during VBS week.
 
Vacation Bible School Kitchen Coordinator – will choose daily snacks and gather needed food items and be responsible for serving snacks during VBS. Will also be responsible for scheduling volunteer meals.
 
Vacation Bible School Games Director – will choose appropriate games and lead them during VBS.
 
Vacation Bible School Volunteer – will help in one of the areas listed above
 
Camp Coordinator – will promote summer church camps to children
 
Boys for Christ Leader – will plan fun activities once or twice a month all year for boys in grades 2-6.
 
Girls for Christ Leader – will plan fun activities once or twice a month for girls in grades 2-6.
  
Easter Egg Hunt Coordinator – will schedule and publicize egg hunt, recruit volunteers, and gather eggs.
 
Easter Egg Hunt Volunteer – will hide eggs or monitor groups
 
Pumpkin Party Coordinator – will schedule and publicize party, recruit volunteers, and gather candy and other needed supplies
 
Pumpkin Party Volunteer – will assist with games, stories, crafts, snacks, or other activities during party
 
Royal Event Coordinator – will schedule and publicize event, coordinate volunteers, and gather needed supplies
 
Royal Event Volunteer – will assist with games, stories, crafts, meal, or other activities during event
 
FUMC Pre-School Volunteer – will volunteer in the Fredericktown Christian Pre-School on a regular or as needed basis
 
Tomato Show Float Coordinator – will plan and help construct a float for the children’s parade and recruit children for involvement
 
Float Volunteer – will help with the construction of the float prior to the parade
 
Bulletin Board Volunteer – will update the children’s bulletin board (outside the junior church room) with upcoming events
 
Children’s Librarian – will regularly monitor the checking out and re-shelving of books in the children’s library located in the junior church room
 
Summer Storytime Coordinator – will schedule volunteers to read stories once a week throughout the summer for children ages 3-7
 
Summer Storytime Volunteer – will read one or two stories and plan an accompanying craft activity for children ages 3-7 once or twice during the summer
 
Worship Dance Teacher- will teach young children the art of worship dance
 
Children’s Sermon Presenter – will present a children’s sermon on the fourth Sunday of a month during the 11:00 service
 
Blessing of the Backpacks Coordinator – will schedule event, recruit prayer leaders, and purchase gifts
 
After School Club volunteer - will help lead activities or supervise children in grades 1-5
 
 
Food Service Ministries
 
Kitchen Buyer – someone who shops often and would be willing to pick-up items at the request of the Food Service Team Leader. The Church budget would cover the purchases.
 
Sunday A.M. Coffee - willing to help prepare coffee for the Sunday morning Welcome Table.
 
Kitchen Volunteers deep cleaning - would be willing to help deep clean the kitchen as requested by the Food Service Team Leader
 
Kitchen Volunteers spot cleaning  - would be willing to spot clean the kitchen once a week or once a month---go in and check, wash any dirty dishes laying around, take home dish towels to clean, put away misc. dishes etc. that have been left out etc.
 
Kitchen Volunteers cooking/serving - if available when needed, would be willing to help cook/serve for various meals whether they be mission dinners, meals following special services, funeral dinners, etc.
 
Food Donor - if available when needed, would be willing to donate purchased or homemade items for all occasions as the needs arise….it could be a salad for a mission dinner, a casserole for a funeral dinner, cookies for a youth party, etc.
 
Hospitality Ministries
 
New Member Friend – for 6 months, greets assigned new member, gives a short tour of the building, introduces member to staff, reports needs of member to church staff, and pastor
 
Donate a box of blank cards for welcome table – will buy and donate a box of assorted or blank cards for the Welcome Table. Cards may be used by anyone to encourage, comfort, and celebrate with others
 
Donate a sheet of stamps - will buy and donate a sheet of stamps to be used by those who choose to send a card they have taken from the Welcome Table. Stamps may be used by anyone sending a card from the Welcome Table and are available in the office.
 
Sit with first time visitors– will watch for unfamiliar faces and sit with visitors, greeting them, introducing them to others, and presenting them a coffee mug, and encouraging them to fill out a visitation card.
 
Donate small packets of hot beverages – will buy and donate small packets of coffee, hot cocoa, hot cider, or tea. These items go into mugs given to 1st time visitors
 
Donate juice for welcome table – will buy and donate 2 cartons of juice at assigned times (1-3) weeks per year for the Welcome Table. Cartons should be in the church kitchen no later than 9:00 a.m. on assigned Sundays.
 
Donate fruit for welcome table – will be assigned up to 5-6 weeks per year to buy and donate fresh or frozen fruit (not canned) for the Welcome Table. Fruit should be in the church kitchen no later than 9:00 a.m. on assigned Sundays.
 
Donate Baked Goods for the Welcome Table – will be assigned up to 4-5 weeks per year to buy/bake and donate baked goods for the Welcome Table. Food should be in the church kitchen no later than 9:00 a.m. on assigned Sundays.
 
Set up and host welcome tables – will come into the church kitchen up to 8-12 times per year after 9:00 a.m. on assigned Sundays to prepare and display the baked goods, fruit, juice, plates, napkins, utensils, sugar, etc…..may decorate the table
 
Card Ministry Coordinator – will oversee a group who will send cards to folks on the prayer list, those making a new commitment, those who brought special music, those with birthdays or anniversaries, those with prayer requests, etc.
 
Card Ministry – participate weekly writing cards to folks as described above.
 
Donate $5.00 gift cards – will buy a $5.00 gift card and drop it off at the church office. These will be used by the card committee or at the pastor’s discretion.
 
Donate $5.00 restaurant certificates for visitors – will buy and donate to the church office a $5.00 restaurant certificate to be used by welcomes to take newer attendees to lunch; or cash can be donated for welcomers to take newer attendees to a mission dinner
 
Coordination of cookie ministry – will prepare a schedule of those willing food donors to bake cookies and those willing folks to deliver cookies in order for there to be cookies available in the church kitchen for delivery to visitors
 
Laity in Worship
 
Church greeters for 9:00 service – stand at the center doors to Sanctuary or near the top of the back steps to welcome worshippers on Sunday morning…arrive by 8:30.
 
Usher for 9:00 service - assist Sunday morning worshippers by making introductions, holding the door open, passing out bulletins, giving directions, welcoming and noting first time visitors, Also, collecting the offering, taking the attendance and being available to the pastor are important aspects of ushering. Arrive by 8:30.
 
Usher/Greeter for 11:00 service – see notes for 9:00 ushers and greeters…arrive by 10:45 a.m.
 
Communion Usher 9:00 service - at the direction of the pastor volunteer will pass communion to worshippers (3-4 times per year)
 
Communion Usher 11:00 service- at the direction of the pastor volunteer will pass communion to worshippers (3-4 times per year)
 
Communion Steward - will help pour juice and prepare elements for communion. It takes about 30-45 minutes usually the Saturday prior to Communion Sunday (currently four times a year) Worship Team Leader provides the elements.
 
Will pick up communion cups after the 9:00 service – following the service, volunteer will pick up used communion cups from the pews and dispose of them
 
Will pick up communion cups after the 11:00 service following the service, volunteer will pick up used communion cups from the pews and dispose of them
 
Communion usher for Christmas Eve 7:00 service – will pass the elements of Communion to worshippers at the direction of the pastor….we need approximately 16-20 people for this
 
Communion usher for Christmas Eve 9:00 service – will pass the Communion elements as directed by the pastor….we need up to 12 people for this
 
Pick up communion cups after Christmas Eve Service – will pick up used communion cups and dispose of them. Circle:   Early Service       Late Service
 
Greeter/Usher for Hanging of the Greens - will greet people and hand out any programs for our traditional decorating of the Sanctuary on the first Sunday eve of Advent….arrive 30 minutes prior to program
 
Altar Steward- As the Christian year changes, volunteer will change the colored cloths that lay across the altar table and the pulpit and lectern. You will be given a calendar so you know when this would need done.
 
Lay reader– willing to prepare and read scripture in the 9:00 service once a month or quarter.
  
Flower Ministry  - will set out a calendar for folks to sign up to donate altar flowers, work with the church office and local florist to see that flowers are delivered and placed on the altar.
 
Candle lighter 9:00 service – if an acolyte is unavailable for the service, I as an adult volunteer, would be willing to use the lighter on the pulpit and discreetly light the candles.
 
Candle lighter 11:00 service - if an acolyte is unavailable for the service, I as an adult volunteer, would be willing to use the lighter on the pulpit and discreetly light the candles.
 
Standby usher/greeter - I attend regularly and if the church is shorthanded, I could fill in for an usher, greeter, on a given Sunday.

Sound System Operator  9:00 service – will run the sound system during the 9:00 service—includes checking mikes, doing sound checks, practicing with soloists; needs to be there by 8:30 am

Power Point Operator  9:00 service  - will run the power point in the first service—may need to also run dvd/video clips; needs to be there by 8:30 am

Will Create Power Points – at the direction of the Pastor, volunteer will create power points for the Sunday Services and any special service or event
 
Video Camera Operator 9:00 service - on an as needed basis, volunteer will run the video camera in the first service
 
Video Camera Operator 11:00 service - on an as needed basis, volunteer will run the video camera in the second service
 
I’m willing to be trained in the above media- 9:00 service- is willing to learn how to operate sound system, power point, and /or video camera to help out in the first service

Valet Parking Volunteer –  an adult who will park cars for persons who have mobility issues
 
Long Range Worship Planner –will attend two long range worship planning meetings per year and be willing to do some independent research on topics of worship for specific services.
 
Missions /Outreach Ministries
 
Donate food for take out meal ministry *meals are prepared once a month and food donations include ground sirloin, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, salad, applesauce and dessert
 
Help cook __ times for take out meals ministry* - usually on or near the last Monday of the month, will cook spaghetti to freeze for take-out meal….about 1-2 hours
 
Correspond with Missionary* - will correspond with a missionary and share information with church family
 
Prepare a mission dinner – work with Missions Team Leader and Food Service Volunteers to plan, and cook a meal with the proceeds going for various missions
 
Adult Mission Trip Coordinator – would coordinate and plan a mission trip for adults in the congregation
 
Serve on Mission Work Team – if offered, would serve on a work team or mission group
 
Interchurch Volunteer*-will volunteer time at the Interchurch building uptown helping families with various needs and/or stocking shelves and hanging up clothes
 
Help with Mission Fair – in late Nov. or early Dec. help set up posters and recruit people to share about various missions that the church sponsors…the mission fair is a time when all of our missions are highlighted and folks can see them before or after eating a mission dinner
 
FACA (Fredericktown Area Church Assoc) Rep* - will serve as the United Methodist Church rep on a community-wide committee which meets monthly to address needs of the community at large and plans things such as the community Thanksgiving Service, Singspiration, Ice Cream Social, etc.
 
Make CWS (Church World Service) Kits – as directed by the Missions Team Leader, volunteers will donate or create materials for school kits, health kits and/or other kits such as clean-up buckets for after natural disasters
 
Habitat for Humanity Volunteer* - will join other volunteers in constructing a house for a family in the community. In 2008, a habitat house will be built in Fredericktown.
 
Walk in Crop Walk – in October, volunteer will get packets of information from local church, gather pledges then walk a course to raise money for folks in need.
 
Sponsor a crop walker – will donate money to a person walking in the crop walk
 
Food Pantry coordinator – on a monthly, or as needed basis, volunteer will find out what the Interchurch needs, put that in the bulletin, and arranges a call chain among food pantry donors to gather needed items. Will then see that the items get delivered from the church to the Interchurch building.
 
Support the Food Pantry* - will donate needed items to the Interchurch food pantry on a regular basis
 
Litter Pick up-willing to pick up trash along a strip of highway designated to our church to keep clean
 
Roccfest Volunteer – will join others to help sponsor, prepare for and work at a day long event bringing Christian Rock bands to the Fredericktown community in May
 
Assist with Lay Witness Mission/Revivals – will help organize and host a team of visiting believers who would share their testimonies
 
Brainstorm Outreach Ministry Ideas – will meet with team leader occasionally to brainstorm ideas for sharing God’s love and offer ideas for true “outreach evangelism and/or missions.”
 
Organize a meal for Hot Meals Ministry -  will plan a meal for the monthly Monday night Hot Meal ministry and contact those who will fix and serve it.
 
Fix Food for Hot Meal Ministry -   will be willing to help cook and prepare food for a monthly Monday night meal for the Hot Meal Ministry
 
Serve Meal for Hot Meal Ministry -   will be willing to help serve the meal and visit with guests at a monthly Monday night meal for the Hot Meal Ministry
 
Donate money for Hot Meal Ministry-  am willing to donate money to go towards supporting the monthly Monday night Hot Meal Ministry
 
Music & Arts Ministries
Join the Senior Choir 9:00 Service – rehearse Wednesday nights from 7:00 -8:30. Sing the 1st and 3rd Sundays plus special occasions.
 
Join the Praise Team 11:00 Service – rehearse Saturday mornings at 9:00 – 10:30. Team members rotate week to week to lead worship. 
 
Substitute for pianist 9:00 service – fill in as choir accompanist
 
Substitute for organist 9:00 service – fill in for organist –can be piano
 .
Serve as guest vocalist 9:00 Service – provide special music and/or offertory, 2nd, 4th,and 5th Sundays or offertory only, on 1st and 3rd Sundays.

Help to recruit musicians. Vocalists, bands, dancers, etc for either 9:00-11:00 service   inform choir director or Praise Team director of musicians/vocalists/dancers/etc we might invite.

Participate in Clown Ministry – would participate with others in launching this as a new ministry
 
Act in Sunday morning skits – learn, rehearse, and present small group or one person dramas/skits
 
Act in Special Drama Events – participate in larger scale dramas involving a fair amount of preparation.
 
Participate in Tableau Drama – rehearse and present non-speaking tableaus that dramatize scripture OR provide quite background music OR read the scripture being portrayed. 
 
Minister to other groups through Christian drama – Prepare and participate in drama activities
To share with other churches
 
Brainstorm activities & Events – will meet quarterly with music and drama ministries team to help plot and maintain our course for what, where, when and how our church can best minister through drama as a part of worship.
 
Visual Arts Ministry– will help create banners, displays, and decorations for sanctuary and other spots in our church
 
Participate in scripture recitation 9:00 service – memorize and recite short scripture passages
 
Participate in scripture recitation 11:00 service – memorize and recite short scripture passages
 
 
Nursery Ministries
 
Nursery volunteers during the 9:00 service (3-4 times a year) –will watch 0-K age children in the nursery during the service
 
Nursery volunteers during the 11:00 service (6 times a year) –will be assigned to one of the nursery rooms (0-2, 3-4, Pre-K) and watch children
 
Teacher - 1 lesson a month for the 9:00 or 11:00 service - will go in during service and teach a 15 minute lesson to 3-4 & Pre-K children
 
Substitute worker for the 9:00 service - will be called to watch children on an as needed basis
 
Substitute worker for the 11:00 service –will be called to watch children on an as needed basis
 
Mother in Charge (1-2 months a year) –will be available to fix the schedule for the month. They will check on the rooms each Sunday to make sure volunteers are in place.
 
Sunday School Nursery - will watch children ages 0-2 years during the Sunday School hour.
 
Substitute Sunday school Nursery – Help in the nursery as needed during the Sunday School hour
 
Sunday School ages 3-to preschool - will teach a lesson to 3-4 or Pre-K children during the Sunday School hour
 
Substitute Sunday School ages 3-to preschool- will watch children during Sunday School as needed
 
Sunday Evening Event volunteer – will watch children in the nursery if we have special Sunday night classes
 
Christmas Eve. Service Nursery Volunteers – volunteers would watch children in the nursery during Christmas Eve service
 
Friday night Adult Volunteers – volunteers will plan a Friday night event for kids so that parents can have a night out
 
Do crafts with children – volunteers would go in once a month and do a craft with Pre-K children during the 11:00 service
 
Attend Nursery Brainstorming sessions/retreats – volunteers will come to quarterly meetings to help with nursery planning
 
Baby shower Coordinator - lead a group of people to organize a baby shower for women who have had a baby or going to have a baby since the last shower. Plan food, games, speaker, decorations, publicity, etc.
 
Help with Baby Shower  - volunteers will help plan food, games, and decorations for a baby shower for expectant moms in the Church
 
Coordinate Meals for new moms – volunteer would recruit volunteers and make calls to get 3 meals to moms after the birth of a new baby
 
Youth Helper - nursery 9:00 – youth would help watch children in the nursery during the 9:00 service
 
Youth Helper - nursery 11:00  - youth would help watch children in the nursery during the 11:00 service
 
Standby nursery assistant - I attend regularly and if the nursery is especially crowded, or if the volunteer staff is short-handed, I would assist occasionally in watching the children.

Nursery Cleaning Volunteer -   help keep nursery, toys and supplies clean and organized…take turns doing a monthly “deep cleaning”.
 
Nursery handyman volunteer – will help with small maintenance or building projects needed in the nursery.
 
Prayer Ministries
 
Join Intercessory Prayer Group – meets weekly to pray over those who are on that week’s prayer list; also prays over and helps distribute prayer quilts
 
Be on the Prayer Chain – will receive calls regarding urgent needs of our congregation, call the next person on the list, alert them of the necessity of prayer, and then pray (and fast if you choose) as necessary for a length of time regarding each need
 
Pray over the services:  - will be in the parlor, praying as the services take place
 
Pray for Pastor – will meet with the pastor 15-20 minutes prior to services to pray for him.
 
Pray for Hot Meals Ministry -   will faithfully surround this new monthly Monday night meal in prayer
 
Help Organize Church Prayer Vigils – will work with others to set up church-wide prayer vigils
 
 
Special Services Ministries
 
Help with Lent/Easter – will meet with Special Service Team Leader to develop, promote, and implement any special activities for Sunday Services during Lent & Easter
 
Help with Mother's Day– will meet with Special Service Team Leader to develop, promote, and implement any special activities for Mother’s Day; for example: passing out flowers to moms
 
Help with Father's Day– will meet with Special Service Team Leader to develop, promote, and implement any special activities for Father’s Day; for example: giving Dads candy bars or slices of cake
 
Help with Boy's Scout Sunday – will act as our church liaison and assist Scout Leaders with any help that they might need on that particular Sunday morning
 
Help with Girl's Scout Sunday will act as our church liaison and assist Scout Leaders with any help that they might need on that particular Sunday morning
 
Help with All Saints Day – will participate in the Sunday Service as directed by the pastor in recognizing those church members who have passed away in the preceding year. It could mean reading names, lighting candles, etc.
 
Will light candles for Hanging of the Greens – willing to participate in the evening service on the first day of Advent by lighting candles
 
Will be readers for Hanging of the Greens – willing to participate in the evening service on the first day of Advent by being a reader
 
Will help set up Christmas Trees/Decorations - in the week prior to the Hanging of the Greens service, volunteer will assist choir members in setting up trees and some decorations and banners….usually the morning of the Sat. before Hanging of the Greens
 
Will take down Christmas Trees/Decorations – following Epiphany, volunteers will help dismantle trees, and take down decorations/banners and store them away.
 
Prepare candles for Christmas Eve – will help clean candleholders, and set out candles for the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service...volunteers will need to set a time to clean and return candles and candleholders to storage
 
Light candles for a Sunday of Advent 9:00 ser. - During advent, a family will participate in a candle lighting activity during the Sunday Service

Advent Reader 9:00 service - During advent, volunteer would be willing to read a special piece during morning worship at the direction of the pastor

Will carry a Pentecost Banner 9:00 - at the beginning of the service, volunteer will process into the sanctuary carrying in a banner and set it in place as directed by the special service team leader
 
Will carry a Pentecost Banner 11:00 at the beginning of the service, volunteer will process into the sanctuary carrying in a banner and set it in place as directed by the special services team leader
 
Remove & Store Pentecost Banners - at the direction of the special services team leader, help take down and store banners
 
Pentecost Reception Volunteer – will assist setting up for reception, and in cleaning up following reception
 
Visitation/Congregational Care Ministries
 
Trained to give Communion – Be trained as a volunteer lay person to take communion to the shut ins or hospitalized as needed
 
Cook Friendship Meal – Organize, plan, and cook a meal for the 3rd Wed of the month Friendship Meals
 
Help with Friendship Meal – help to put friendship meals together on the 3rd Wed of the month
 
Deliver Friendship Meal – take and eat a friendship meal with someone on the 3rd Wed. of the month
 
Write letters to adult visitors –write a letter of welcome to a visitor to our worship service
 
Visit Nursing Homes -- will join visitation committee which meets on the second Monday of the month, learn of church members in nursing homes who might need a visit and plan to visit one of them
 
Visit shut-ins &/or members as needed - will join visitation committee which meets on the second Monday of the month, learn of church members who might need a visit and plan to visit one of them
 
Drive Members to appointments – will drive members to the doctor and/or other appointments on an as needed basis
 
Manage visitation communication- keep track of adults and children in hospital and inform others about taking flowers/balloons to them
 
Take flowers/balloons to hospitalized*- will join visitation committee which meets on the second Monday of the month, to learn of opportunities to take flowers to hospitalized or sick church members
 
Visit New Moms –visit new mom to offer encouragement and support
 
Telephone elderly to check on them* will join visitation committee which meets on the second Monday of the month, learn of those folks who need to have phone calls to be checked on and then call those
people
 
Write cards to elderly –will help visitation committee write cards to the elderly and shut-in
 
Meal Planning assistant—assist with planning of a meal for visitors planning to become members—quarterly as needed
 
Housecleaning—will provide housecleaning occasionally for a member in need
 
Meal Provider –will provide a meal for members who are in need or shut in after surgery/or other health issue
 
Write Sympathy cards—write sympathy cards to families after a death-for grief ministry
 
Write or Phone—write or phone family members after a death—for grief ministry
 
Learn Grief Support Techniques—will be trained in grief support techniques to help with follow-up for the grief ministry program
 
Set Vigil—will sit with family and their dying loved one to help with incidental needs
 
Learn skills to set vigil –learn skills to set vigil with the dying
 
Donate/Loan medical equipment – volunteer has access to medical equipment that could be loaned to persons in need….such as walkers, crutches, etc…(If you have responded to this before, you do not need to respond again, as we already have your equipment on our list. Let us know if we need to take your equipment off of our list.)
 
Oversee Medical Equipment Lending Library - will keep track of medical equipment and assist with lending it to members
 
Monetary Donation for Equipment – willing to donate $10.00 (annually) to go towards medical equipment that can be loaned to persons in need. Our church will be establishing a durable medical equipment lending library.
 
Monetary Donation of Gas money-- willing to donate money for gas cards for those in need
 
Provide Transportation to Worship/Events* would be willing to bring folks who are unable to drive to church or drive them to special church events
 
Pay-Visitor’s Mission Dinner – if a visitor comes to church on a Sunday when a mission dinner is planned, volunteer will pay for and sit with the visitor
 
Take Visitor to Lunch - volunteer is willing to take a visitor out to lunch. The church office has gift cards to help cover the cost of the visitor’s lunch.
 
Will play cards or games with elderly- would spend time in fellowship with older members of the church family in playing games or cards
 
Participate in cleaning projects for the elderly – would help older church family members with special cleaning projects that they cannot do by themselves
 
Home maintenance Volunteer, – would help older church members with small repair jobs that they cannot do themselves
 
Will "grandma sit" to relieve a care giver - will spend an hour or two with a homebound person on an as needed basis so that the caregiver could have respite time
 
Will run errands for a caregiver - on an as needed basis, will go to the grocery, pharmacy, etc and do some errands for a caregiver who cannot leave home
 
 
 
 
Youth Ministries
 
Co-Teach Sr. High Sunday School – will serve one month with pre-prepared lesson
 
Co-Lead Girl's Bible Study  - will serve as a guest speaker 1x /mo
 
Supervise Weightroom or Youth room during muscle ministry – will serve one day per week for one month, 2 hours per day. Circle which day you can serve:      Mon.         Wed.             Fri.
 
Donate snacks for after school programs – one time/week for a month—contributes healthy foods = fruit, nuts, water
 
Coordinate Youth Drama/Art Ministry – quarterly commitment, will research and find skits/ make copies /
 
Assist with Youth Drama/Art Ministry – help make costumes and props for youth dramas
 
Help with Youth Praise Team – direct/ pick songs, pray with group
 
Go on a monthly mission trip -Jr. High or Sr. High – act as chaperone/driver; 
 
Sponsor scholarships for Youth Retreats and Mission trips  -donate funds to help youths (based on families in need) go on mission trips, donations can go for supplies like vehicles, gasoline, food….contributions are tax deductible!
 
Go on a youth retreat – serve as a driver/chaperone; one time/year
 
Promote Chrysalis– support young people who are going on a Chrysalis weekend retreat by donating food or sponsoring them
 
Help with Youth Transportation - willing to drive to local events/ field trips
 
Help with H.S. Graduation Breakfast – will provide money to buy food, help cook the meal, and or serve/clean-up
 
Help with H.S Graduation Recognition – will help pass out gifts to students during church services, provide gifts and cards of congrats
 
Send an encouragement card to a youth – will write to a specific youth once a month
